We won!
SBC denied Granton’s appeal and refused application 24/00031/FUL. Watch the recording.
Now that SBC’s planning committee has spoken on both condition 2 and condition 7, we call on SBC planners to immediately refuse Granton’s third (and final) application 24/00247/FUL on the same grounds.

Restoring woodland
for nature and people
The world has changed. We can’t keep sacrificing our natural world for the benefit of the select few.
Together, our community has fought to protect the historic Kingsmeadows Woodland from development.
Join us to save the last woodland in the Peebles Conservation Area for generations to come.

We're almost there.
Together we can save this woodland
SBC refused Granton’s 2022 application to build in this woodland on the Tweed SAC, citing tree loss and ecology after 509 community objections. Granton's permission in principle expired on 4 March 2024.
SBC have refused two out of three of Granton's 2024 renewal requests, cumulatively gathering 250 further objections. SBC refused 24/00030/FUL (seeking a single-word grammatical change) on 9 Dec 2024 and refused 24/00031/FUL (seeking reduced protection for the wider woodland) on 23 Feb 2026.
Now that SBC's Planning Committee and Local Review Body have refused permission, we call on planners to immediately refuse Granton's third and final renewal request 24/00247/FUL (seeking the combined changes from refused requests 24/00030/FUL and 24/00031/FUL in a single application).

Why is saving Kingsmeadows
so important?
In Scotland, less than 2% of land is ancient woodland, 274 Scottish woods are under threat from development and 1 in 9 of our native species are at risk of extinction.
Preserving biodiverse habitats like the 230-year-old woodland at Kingsmeadows is critical to protecting our native wildlife, fighting climate change and supporting the health and wellbeing of communities.
Home to 10 veteran trees
And 81 notable trees on the Woodland Trust Ancient Tree Inventory.
Veteran and ancient trees support a huge species range and are of the highest ecological value.
47% of bird species at risk
Of the 51 bird species recorded at Kingsmeadows over the last 10 years,
24 (47%) are on the Birds of Conservation Concern 5 Red or
Amber lists and are endangered.
100 protected species
Otters, bats and red squirrel are amongst the 100 verified records of European and Nationally Protected Species (Scottish Biodiversity List) on or near the site.
